Ted DeWys Memorial Referee Scholarship Fund
Ted DeWys was a very active member in youth soccer within New Jersey. In particular, Ted was the head referee and referee assignor within the Piscataway Soccer Club (PSC). Ted not only was a referee, but he was a mentor to many of the young referees within our club. He would work with them during the games and helped to improve their confidence and ability to work future games. Ted passed away in 2004, but we continue to honor him for his guidance, dedication, and hard work by providing a partial college scholarship to the young men and women who have also worked hard in our club as referees.
Amount of Scholarship
The Piscataway Soccer Club will award two scholarships in the amount of $500 each to two High School Senior recipients each year in Ted's name.
The scholarship will be issued once for each recipient and is nonrenewable. Both male and female candidates are encouraged to apply for the scholarships.
Scholarship Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the PSC Ted DeWys Memorial Referee Scholarship:
• Must have been a referee for at least one year (two seasons) for Piscataway Soccer Club
• Must of obtained a referee grade 8 license or greater (license need not be active).
• Must be attending a Community College, Junior College, or Undergraduate College or University in the following fall
• Must complete and submit scholarship application
(Applicants are not required to be a member of Piscataway High School or have been a player in the Piscataway Soccer Club)
Application Procedure
• Applicants must adhere to the requirements before filling out the form
• Applicants must fill out all sections of the application form
• Once the form is submitted, expect to receive an acknowledgement via email that your application has been received
• Piscataway Soccer Club Selection Committee will hold a meeting in late April and review all applications
• The Selection Committee will select two recipients (the Selection Committee reserves the right to offer offer only one or no scholarships)
• The criteria used for selecting each scholarship recipient will be based on a combination of the candidate's refereeing experience, visibility within the Piscataway Soccer Club, and the candidate's application essay
• The recipients will be notified by phone
• Recipients will be recognized on the Piscataway Soccer Club website and with a photo during award ceremony at the May Board meeting
• Announcement of the winner will also be displayed in the June Newsletter
